Richard Leland Eddy left this mortal life on June 30, 2025. Richard was the only child of Olive
Hoskisson and Charles Leland Eddy. Richard was born August 6th, 1934 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Richard
married Sallie Atkinson October 14th, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a
devoted husband to Sallie. A devoted father to Shauna Lee Eddy Sanders {deceased}( Marvin,) Sara
Lynn Eddy Porter (Todd), Suzanne Eddy Smith, Joseph Leland Eddy and Sallie Amelia Eddy and 15
grandchildren: Michael (Brittany), Ashley (Jordan) Stephanie (Ryan) Nathan (Savannah) Annalie
Benjamin, Ari, Gabriel, Rosie, Zander, Brandi, (Thomas,) Jeanna (Kenneth,) Dionna and 13 great
grand children. Michael, Ruthie, Aragorn, Theoden, Luthien, Thorin, Ada, Jay, Emmett. Thomas,
Taneia, 'Nylah, and KennKenn.
Richard was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served
as a Stake Seventies President, members of two Bishoprics, Prieshood Leader, Teacher in most of the
organizations of the Church, and he and his wife Sallie served a Mission to Desmoin Iowa Mission.
Richard and Sallie served eight years in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. All those who knew him
respected his leadership abilities, felt his respect and kindness for them.
Richard received his BS and MS degree in Meteorology from the University of Utah with
additional graduate studies from Denver University.
Richard worked as a Weather Officer in the United States Air Force, private Weather Consultant
providing general forecasting and research; Graduate and Undergraduate instructor at the University of
Utah, began Reclamation career in 1965 as a research Meteorologist in the Office of Atmospheric
Water Resources.
Some of his achievements: Contributed heavily to Reclamation's programs regarding weather
modification. PMP determination for drainages above Hoover and Glen Canyon Dams, and global
climate change. Designated ACRM climate Change Coordinator.
Richard received several Reclamation special achievement and performance awards during his
tenure. His Professional Affiliations: Member of American Meteorological Society. American
Geophysical Union, American Association for Advancement of Science, Society of the Sigma XI, and
nonmember advisor ASCE task committee.
Richard will be missed by his family and friends. We are sure he is now with our daughter, and
also peeping in to see how his wife is doing. His reunion with the Savior must have been awesome.
He was ready and looking forward to seeing Him.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at the Sunset Building, 2100 Sunset Drive, Lehi, Utah from 10:00-10:45am with funeral services beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will be held with Military Honors at the Utah Veterans Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah.
