Robert Frederick (Rick) Smith passed away suddenly at home on January 26, 2022.

Rick was born in Raymond, Alberta, Canada on October 28, 1962, to Robert Dean and JoAnn Scholes Smith. In his early life, his family moved to Ogden, then to Logan, and eventually settled in Lehi.

Rick graduated from Lehi High School, and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweden. He graduated in Communications from Brigham Young University and completed an internship in New York City. Rick later attended medical school and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara.

Rick's employment portfolio was vast and varied. Some of his favorite occupations were swimming instruction and lifeguarding, running a camera at KUTV Channel Two, managing communications for the Salt Lake County Water Conservancy District, and just being a part of the Huntsman Cancer Institute. At the time of his passing, Rick was employed by Purple.

Rick had diverse interests. He played on the Lehi High football and basketball teams. Rick enjoyed hiking and camping, and he shared off-roading trips in his Toyota pickup. He had a pilot's license and was an accomplished pilot. Rick was mechanically minded and could fix anything on a dime. He was an avid gardener and enthusiastically pruned the family fruit trees.

Rick had a wide range of musical interests including classic rock, disco and new wave. He played the viola and trombone, was the drum major in the marching band, and later played bass guitar in a rock band.

Rick was always knowledgeable about family matters both immediate and extended. He is preceded in death by his angel mother JoAnn Scholes Smith and his stepmother Sharon Jane Turman Smith. He is survived by his dearest friend, his father, Robert Dean Smith. He was a dutiful older brother and uncle. He is survived by all of his siblings: Gregory (Michelle) Smith, Marshall (Allison) Smith, Janalee (Matthew) Goebel, and Juliann (Aaron) Jenne; and 15 nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday, February 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lehi 19th Ward building, 150 East 1500 North, Lehi, Utah. The family will welcome visitors from 10:00–10:45. Interment will take place at the Lehi City Cemetery.
