Rollan Phil Masterson was born on June 11, 1934 in Kanab, UT to Mabel Cram and Rollan Arasmus Masterson. After a valiant fight with cancer, Phil passed away quietly at home on January 13, 2021 with loved ones by his side. He was the second son of nine children: Foster, Wayne (Sandy), Royce (Anabel), Roma Janssen, Fred (Pat), Pam (Gary) Hubbard, Steve (Robyn), and Mary (Todd) Andreasen. The family was sealed together for time and all eternity in the St. George Temple on October 27, 1951. He married Tina Dirkmat in 1959 and had two children: Jamie (Jim) Parker and Brandon (Nicole). He later married Carol Lynn Rawlings on September 7, 1964 and had three more children: Lynn, Sherry (Rob) Hunter, and Tana (Lois). Carol and Phil recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. He leaves behind a legacy of 10 grandchildren: Brad (Anna) Parker, Rollan James (Laura) Parker, Jesse (Sean) Ess, Bryce Masterson, Kailey Masterson, Tyson Gurr, Courtney Hunter, Hayden Hunter, McKenna (Jonathan) Ruth, and Sadie Hunter, and 1 great grandchild: Jacob Ess.

Phil loved growing up in Kanab among the beautiful red cliffs. He spent many days hunting, swimming, hiking, and collecting arrowheads and unique rocks with his friends and family. Before he graduated from High School in 1953, he had several jobs including delivering the newspaper, working at Houston's Trails End restaurant, working for Dan Frost in his grocery store, and shining shoes for the movie stars. One of his all-time favorite jobs was working with his uncle Charles Cram in his garage. While in High School, he enjoyed painting, boxing, working on the school newspaper, and singing in the choir. He served in the Army from 1954 -1956 and was a veteran of the Korean war. From there, he spent some time working odd jobs and completing some college courses while working in Logan, UT. He then landed a job at the Bureau of Reclamation taking soil samples, and worked for them for 30 years. After retiring from the Bureau, he worked for Alpine School District in the maintenance department for 14 years. Once fully retired, Phil was always available to help family or friends with various projects. He also enjoyed taking drives and spending time with family in nature.

God saw you getting tired

And a cure was not to be.

So, He put His arms around you

And whispered "Come to Me."

A golden heart stopped beating.

Your hard-working hands at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us

He only takes the best.

The world lost some of its brightness with the passing of Phil who will be missed dearly by those who love him.

Services will be held January 19th at Wing Mortuary: 118 East Main Lehi, Utah 84043. A viewing will be held at 12 – 1:00 with funeral services to follow. The link to view the live stream of the service for those unable to attend in person is on the Wing Mortuary Facebook page. Interment at Lindon City Cemetery. Due to mortuary policy at this unprecedented time, masks and social distancing will be required.
