Obituary

On Monday, November 14th, Rowan Cloyd Barker commended his Spirit to God. He passed away in the home of his brother Wynn Barker in Roosevelt, Utah due to complications related to kidney failure. He was attended to in his last days by his son, Ridge Barker, his siblings, and his primary care provider Jannell, who is his sister-in-law.

Rowan was born March 24, 1966, to Cloyd Edison Barker and Karleen Burt Barker--their 5th child. He romped and played in the Salt Lake-East Millcreek area surrounded by extended family until the age of 10 when the family moved to Lehi, UT. Rowan competed in high school wrestling and developed an enthusiasm for motorcycles and cars. Upon graduation from Lehi High School, he attended UVCC for a year before leaving to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Rowan remained active in the church throughout his life. He served in many official callings over the years and did countless quiet acts of kindness and generosity.

Rowan married Amy May in 1990. They were married in the temple and were together for many years. While their marriage didn't stand the test of time, Rowan always treated her with kindness and respect. In 1991, they were blessed with their only child, a son, Ridge Barker. They spent the early years of their marriage in Provo, Utah, while Rowan attended BYU. They lived for a time in other places--Elkhart, Indiana and Twin Falls, ID-- but the majority of their time was spent in Rockland, Idaho

Rowan was a whole lot of fun and a consummate tease! He loved life and was a happy person to be around. Rowan went all-in with the company costume contest at Halloween by designing, making and acting out his own outrageous outfits. His costumes over the years were so clever and fun that it became a major highlight of the holiday. Such occasions perfectly exemplify Rowan's fun-loving character and have bestowed us with wonderful memories.

He is survived by his son Ridge Barker, his four brothers and one sister, and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rowan will be greatly missed and always remembered with smiles and laughs by his family and friends.

There will be a viewing held in Lehi, UT at Wing Mortuary on Thursday, November 17, from 6-8pm. The funeral will be held in Rockland, ID on Friday, November 18, with a viewing starting at 11:00am. The funeral will begin at noon. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Rockland.
