Ruth Andrews passed away Sunday, September 20 at the age of 89, at her home, surrounded by family. We know she is now happy to finally be with Lloyd who passed away 2 ½ years ago.

Mom was born in Layton, Utah to Marion Leander Spackman (1886-1964) and Mary Louise Morgan (1886-1975), she was the youngest of eleven; two brothers and eight sisters, all of whom passed away in their old age, except two sisters; one as an infant and one at age two in a tragic accident.

Having been raised during depression times, Mom was exposed to hard times, but as her older sisters often chided her; had it easy, being the youngest. Being the daughter of hard-working parents of strong moral character, she gained moral and family values.

Mom was very bubbly and always made those around feel accepted. She was surrounded by lots of family and friends and was seldom alone. She often told of one time as a young girl coming home to an empty house, with no family or friends, feeling frightened and lonely, she locked herself in the bathroom until "Mom and Dad got home". She never liked being alone!

Mom attended Utah State University where she met the love of her life; Lloyd Andrews of San Diego. He proposed to her after only 20 days. Mom said she felt like she had always known him. They were married in August 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

After marriage, they lived in San Diego and Lemon Grove where six of their seven children were born. In 1967, they moved to Layton, so Mom could care for her aging mother, then came the seventh child. They moved to Lehi, Utah in 1973 and remained there since in the same home.

She mostly was a stay-at-home mom, but for a time Mom was the Layton city librarian where she often had "help" from one or two of her kids. In her later years, she worked as a secretary at ZCMI in Orem.

Mom loved working in the yard, making it look nice, planting flowers and bushes. When she became too ill to do so, she often said she would rather be pulling weeds than sitting here doing nothing.

She and Dad provided a loving home which all of her children are grateful for.

After retirement, Mom and Dad served missions at the Sixth Crossing Mormon handcart visitor center in Wyoming, and at the Church visitor center in Nauvoo, Illinois. Mom and Dad enjoyed singing in the church choir and occasionally singing a duet. "He who has clean hands and pure heart" was one they often sang as a duet.

Children: Wayne (Vickie), Jeri Hansen (David), Janet Gerber (Dave), Steve (Debbie), Kevin* (Karen), Daren, Keith (Angie). *Kevin, Karen and their baby daughter died in an auto accident in 1989.

Mom and Dad have 93 grandchildren / great-grandchildren.

A viewing for Ruth will be held at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah, Saturday, September 26, from 11:00 - 12:00 for all to attend.
Masks and social distancing will be observed.
Graveside services will be held the same day at 1:00 pm for family and relatives at the Lehi City Cemetery, 1100 North 400 East, Lehi, Utah (North East section).
