Sandra Burks, faithful wife, loving mother, and dedicated grandmother returned to her Heavenly Father on March 15, 2022. She and her twin sister Shelia were born to Raymond William Markley and Loretta Mae Johnson in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on November 28, 1944.

She was born to a coal miner family with sisters Dolly, Bonnie, and Shelia; later a half-sister and brother Lois and Sonny. The family moved to Nevada and Southern California, and in 1957, difficult finances forced the family to ask the state foster care system to care for the twins. Through family challenges, she fondly recalled times when she and her sister used to play tricks on their teachers by swapping places; changing their clothes and the ribbons in their hair for fun.

When she was 15, she met Clifford Burks at James Monroe High School and they remained sweethearts throughout the rest of high school. Sandy moved several more times in the foster care system, but her favorite foster mother was her last, Ann Vitale. She graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1962 and she married her sweetheart for time at the Los Angeles County Courthouse on May 15, 1964. While Cliff finished his internship with Lockheed, Sandy worked at various establishments in the San Fernando Valley. She later earned a practical nursing license and worked in Hospice care. They were beyond excited for the birth of their first daughter, Cynthia Ann, on June 19, 1966. She devoted her time to raising Cynthia, including supporting her dance and horseback riding lessons, and membership in Camp Fire Girls. Cliff, Sandy, and Cynthia were later sealed together for eternity in 1975.

After a long 10 year wait, Sandy gave birth to Carrie Gayanna on June 27, 1976. She continued to love and devote her time to her children by serving in the Young Women's organization, schools' PTA's, Girl Scout Leadership, and faithful chauffeur to all of the girl's extracurriculars. After Cynthia and Carrie married, she continued to support them by visiting them regularly for lunch, attending all of her grandchildren's births, and filling in while Cynthia and Carrie needed respite from mothering.

Sandy made great efforts to stay in touch with her sisters and cemented several great friendships with those that she worked with. After work was through, she loved to meet her friends and family at local restaurants weekend trips out of town. She was also well-loved by her nieces and nephews and the children she served, especially as "Band Mom" and Girl Scout Co-Leader. Her friends and family remember her best for her bright personality and good humor.

For the final 10 years of her life, Sandy suffered from Alzheimer's cutting short many anticipated trips and golden experiences. She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond & Loretta, step-mother Alice Wilson, and her sisters. She leaves behind her husband, Clifford, daughters Cynthia and Carrie, and 7 grandchildren. A viewing at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am will be held at the Skyline Ridge Ward LDS Chapel 7241 N. Ute Dr., Eagle Mountain, UT, on March 19th.
