Sundy Blackham
March 28, 1943 – October 14, 2026
Sundy Snedeger Blackham, 83, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2026, in Lehi, Utah, surrounded by her loving family. Sundy lived a life filled with music, learning, and laughter, and showed a deep and abiding kindness that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Sundy was born on Sunday, March 28, 1943, in Midvale, Utah to Clyde and Hope Snedeger. At three years old, Sundy’s parents purchased a dairy farm in Altamont, Utah and moved the family there. The years on the farm were her favorite as she had plenty of room to roam and was surrounded by horses, cows, geese, and pigs. The animals were among her greatest friends, and her time with them gave her some of her happiest memories. When she was ten, her family moved to Provo, Utah, where she graduated from Provo High School.
Sundy’s love of music began early, when she first learned to play the violin. Through years of diligent study and dedicated practice, she nurtured that love into a lifelong pursuit. She studied violin at Brigham Young University, became a private violin teacher, and performed with various musical groups and symphonies.
Sundy married Michael Adams in 1962, and together they welcomed three children: DeLaun, Amber, and Aubrey. Sundy and Michael later divorced.
Sundy devoted much of her career to teaching the Suzuki violin method. She was a patient and dedicated teacher who nurtured not only her students’ musical abilities but also their confidence and love of learning. She took pride in watching her students grow and succeed, with some continuing their violin studies and performing at the college level. Her influence extended far beyond the music they played, living on in the many students she encouraged and inspired.
In 1981, a young violist named Morris Blackham joined the Utah Valley Symphony. He and Sundy quickly fell in love and were married in May 1982. Throughout their marriage, they shared a life filled with composing, performing, teaching, and listening to music.
Morris and Sundy also performed with the Salt Lake Symphony and became founding members of the Aspen String Quartet. They brought beautiful music to weddings, funerals, and special gatherings throughout Utah County, offering comfort, joy, and meaningful memories through their performances.
Her love of learning and the written word eventually led her to another meaningful chapter as a librarian at Provo High School. An avid reader who appreciated beautiful prose, Sundy found joy in books and in helping others discover the same. Whether she was teaching a child to play the violin or helping a student find the right book, she had a gift for sharing what she loved.
Above all, Sundy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was at the heart of her life, and she gave those she loved the gifts of her time, her humor, her encouragement, and her generous spirit. She was cherished for her kindness, her wonderful sense of humor, and her remarkable green thumb. She had a special way of making things grow, whether nurturing a garden, encouraging a young musician, or caring for the people around her. Her warmth made others feel welcome, and her presence brought beauty and light to ordinary moments.
Sundy was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Blackham; her parents, Clyde Snedeger and Hope (Prows) Snedeger; and her brothers, Chad and Don. She is survived by her children and their spouses, DeLaun and Julie Adams, Amber and Scott Sandberg, and Aubrey and Ryan McMillan; her beloved grandsons, Devin, Josh, Spencer, Calvin, Eric, Aiden, Oliver, and Keenan; and 11 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind extended family, friends, former students, and all those whose lives were enriched by her music, generosity, and friendship.
Sundy’s legacy is one of kindness, creativity, and love freely given. Like the music she played and the gardens she tended, the goodness she cultivated will continue to flourish in the hearts of her family, her students, and her community. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Sundy made her home at Abbington Manor in Lehi for the last eight years. Her family is deeply grateful to the staff and community for the kindness, compassion, and companionship they shared with her, and for the loving care that brought comfort and warmth to her days.
Celebration of Life
Sundy and her late husband, Morris, will be laid to rest at Provo Cemetery at 10:00am (610 S State St). A celebration of Sundy’s life will be held on December 15, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Provo Library Ballroom (550 N University Ave). A light lunch will be provided.
Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in remembrance of Sundy and to celebrate a life that brought so much beauty, laughter, and love into the world.
