Tate Casey Gurney was born April 5, 2022 to Meghan Jo Gurney and Tyson Cole Gurney in Draper, Utah. After 21 days in the hospital following open heart surgery, Tate passed in the arms of his parents on June 21st. Tate had defied the odds from day one. He was determined to meet his parents and give them their first Mother's Day and Father's Day. He came into this world and instantly captured the love of everyone who had the honor to know him. With being born early at 36 weeks, Tate had the opportunity to charm the hearts of all the NICU nurses at Lone Peak hospital for nearly a month before being discharged on his due date of April 30th.

He was greeted at home by his excited brothers Tiger and Gus. Gus took to him from day one and was never far away. Tiger was willing to love him from a distance. His Grandpa, Grandma and Aunt Lacie were eager to spend as much time as possible holding and loving on him. Due to known medical conditions, Tate spent his time at home with limited visitors but was truly known and loved by many people. Through modern technology he was able to meet family and friends near and far who also loved him deeply. Tate has many Aunts, Uncles and 28 cousins who were honored to call him "their's".

Tate's time home was filled with unmeasurable amounts of joy and love. He quickly picked up many nicknames including Taterbug and Tatertot while he taught Tyson and Meghan about being parents and loving them so profoundly. He was lucky to be able to have his parents by his side every single day while the three of them taught each other about unconditional love. He loved the water and was a true water baby. He loved bath time and especially enjoyed his baths with his Mama. Tate loved stories and having books read to him especially Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat In The Hat. The sound of his parents voices was something he eagerly looked around the room for. He never used a sound machine because the sound of his parents voice was all he needed. His hands were often moving when he was awake and he loved holding his wooden rattle. He had started talking and loved to tell his Mama stories while she held him. Tate loved to watch black and white videos with his Daddy.

Tate is survived by his parents, Tyson and Meghan Gurney. Grandparents Casey and Shelly Gurney and Bert Roberts and Karen Johnston. Great Grandparents Jolene Frier and Edith Roberts. Aunts Lacie Gurney, Kim Little, Breanna Deason (Micheal), Tess Johnston, Sherry Gomez (Charles), Lauren Johnston, Shelby Johnston, Erin Baker (David), Kimber Phillips (Derek), Tia Yarbrough, Adrienne Adams, Jenessa Frahm, and Amanda Mitchell. Uncles Bert Roberts and Greg Roberts. Tate is preceded in death by great grandparents Glen Gurney, Gene Frier, Billie Jo and Henry Johnston and Esley Roberts as well as Aunt Nancy Jo Roberts.

Even though his time on earth will never feel long enough, Tate impacted the lives of people across the entire world in his sacred time with us. We will forever be indebted to Taterbug for teaching us what true, unconditional love is.
