Thomas Alan Walker, Alan to most, was born April 19, 1931 to Thomas Arnell Walker and Lucile Allen at his grandparents house in Lindon, UT.  He spent most of his early life in American Fork Canyon where his dad was in charge of Timpanogos Cave until he was 13, when the National Park Service transferred his dad to Bryce Canyon.  They spent 2-1/2 great years there and then moved back to AF Canyon and Timpanogos Cave.  In the summers he and his brothers worked at the cave.

He graduated from High School in 1949 and the following year was drafted into the Army.  He worked at Tooele Army Depot as munitions handler and was later sent to Ft Sill, Oklahoma where he trained to be an airplane mechanic.

On August 20, 1952 he married Sharlene Holmstead in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City.  He was discharged from the Army and they came home to live in Utah in August of 1953. They lived in Lehi and had 2 daughters Allyn  and Kerry.  In 1957 he was hired by United Airlines and they moved to California and lived in Redwood City and later San Jose.  There they had 2 sons Scott and Stuart.  In 1962 he was able to transfer to the Salt Lake Airport.

He had lost part of a finger when he was 3 and because of that, at work was nicknamed Stubby.

They purchased a house in Midvale, UT.  Another daughter Marian was born there.  The family lived there for 38 years.  During that time he retired from United Airlines and went to work for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in building and mechanical maintenance.  After he and Sharlene retired they built their present home in American Fork, 2 lots down from his parents house.  The house in AF had an extra piece of property where he planted an orchard with a wide variety of fruit trees and had a large garden between some of the rows of trees.  They never made any money from it but it benefitted many people.

Alan was always an avid outdoorsman.  He skied, hunted, fished and hiked.  His whole family had been involved in scouting and he was an Eagle Scout.  He was called to be a Scoutmaster in Midvale and was in scouting for most of his adult life and was awarded the Silver Beaver for his contribution to scouting.  He also loved music and was involved in church choirs and played the harmonica really well.

Survived by his loving wife Sharlene, his children; Allyn Grosjean (Micheal - deceased), Kerry Done (Mike - deceased), Scott (Liz), Stuart (Nga) and Marian Norton (Gerard), 17 living grandchildren, 1 deceased, 46 great grands and 1 great great grand.

Viewing May 24, 2023, 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, UT and May 25, 11:30 - 12:30 pm at the LDS Chapel, 320 N 100 E, American Fork, UT.  Funeral to follow at 1:00 pm.  Burial at Lehi City Cemetery.
