Obituary

Uwe Jens Hansen, 89, originally of Kiel, Germany, most recently of Eagle Mountain, Utah, passed away on Tuesday, March 28th of spinal injuries after a fall.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 8th, at the Cedar Trails Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1934 Cedar Trails Way, Eagle Mountain, UT). A gathering of friends and family will begin at 10:00 and the formal funeral service is to begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Hills, (4800 N 650 E, Provo, UT).

Uwe was born in Kiel, Germany on June 7, 1933. After growing up through WWII, Uwe's family eventually immigrated to America, settling in Utah. Uwe attended Brigham Young University, UC Berkeley, and The University of Utah, finally achieving a PhD in Physics.

He served in the US Army, then as a missionary for the Church in Finland. After his mission, he married artist, musician, and teacher Louise Brimhall. They had two children, Ruth Louise Hansen (Hollander) and Rulon Mark Hansen.

Uwe and Louise settled in Terre Haute, Indiana, where Uwe began his career as a professor of physics. Teaching, one of his great passions, would sustain him all the way into his 80s. As a part of his faculty position, he was able to gain international acclaim as a researcher in the field of musical acoustics, presenting at conferences in Mexico, India, China, and Europe.
During his time in Indiana, he remained dedicated to service in the Church, holding many positions in the lay leadership, from the Stake Presidency to the Choir Director. He was an especially diligent support for other struggling members, visiting and encouraging many people of all backgrounds in the congregations of southern Indiana.

After Louise passed in 2014, Uwe returned to Utah to live with his son and visit with his daughter, teaching physics and math at Utah Valley University. A year later, he was fortunate to meet and marry Marianne Smith, of Eagle Mountain, UT. They were happily married for 4 years when she passed.

His final years were spent with his family, visiting with his many friends, including Jerrolyn Shamy, Roy Gerber, and Marsha Brimhall, and serving in the temples of the Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Heinrich Georg Hansen and Minna Christine Paetau; his wives, Louise Brimhall, and Marianne Smith; and his brother, Klaus J Hansen. Also, son-in-law Steven Hollander. He is survived by his daughter Ruth Louise Hansen (Hollander), his son, Rulon Mark Hansen, and daughter-in-law Jodi Lynne Timothy (Hansen); his grandchildren, Brendon Timothy Hansen and partner Abagail Crangle, and Jacob Ray Hansen.

Most remember Uwe for his kindness and service, either to his neighbors, his students, his friends, or his fellow church members. The lives he touched over the years will always add to his legacy.
