Verna "JoAnn" Coomes, age 75, passed away peacefully, her way, Saturday, February 26th, 2022. Her body had been failing for years. She was currently a patient at Pointe Meadows Health and Rehabilitation, after spending many weeks in several hospitals.

JoAnn was born May 7th, 1946 in Durham, North Carolina to Max J. and Mamie Lee Adams Nielson. She was the oldest of seven children, five sisters and one brother. Her family moved to Utah when she was young. After attending high school in American Fork she married Jim Coomes on February 28th,1964. They had 3 children and were married for 28 years.

Besides being a wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. JoAnn had many jobs over the years. She worked at Pykettes, Continental Copper and Wire, Hatfield Trucking, making stained glass window panels at home and the Utah State Developmental Center. Her most beloved life's work was caring for her special needs daughter, Jill.

JoAnn had many nieces and nephews whom she adored and treated as her own. JoAnn was well known for all her beautiful flowers and fabulous garden. She enjoyed fishing and camping with her family. She loved doing arts and crafts and writing poetry. She also sewed a lot and crocheted many afghans. During the last years of her life she found pleasure in watching television and movies, reading books on her Kindle, visiting with family, and spending time listening to all genres of music.

JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Joell (Ron) Woolstenhulme, son, Jon (Marla) Coomes, 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, (sister) Elaine Thomas, (brother) Joe Nielson, and (sister) Brenda Redmond. She was preceded in death by her parents, (sisters) Denise Jones, Linda Whitener, and Maxine Rogers. Also her daughter Jill Ann Coomes.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.  Interment, Lehi City Cemetery.
