With broken hearts, we mourn the loss of our son, husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend: Brian William Smith. After enduring a difficult battle with addiction, he lost his fight on Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

Brian William Smith was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 27, 1980, to Kirk and Joan Smith. He was raised in a loving home with his older sister Shellie and brothers Mike, Kenny, and Scott. Brian was the Smith's 3rd son and was known in his family as "the boy." Throughout his youth Brian was adventurous, athletic and an absolute joy to be around. There was no sibling rivalry when it came to Brian. He was a peacemaker and everybody loved him.

During his teenage years Brian played baseball, basketball AND football. He continued to be a huge sports fan, but as he grew he also established balance in his life. After graduating from Snow Canyon High School, Brian faithfully served the Lord in the Czech Republic, Prague mission (from 1999 to 2001) for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He developed a deep love for the people he served and thoroughly enjoyed his experience. He was continually serving and his desire to constantly help naturally spilled into other aspects of his life. After his mission, Brian graduated from Southern Utah University with a bachelors degree in criminal justice. He worked for the last 11 years as a public servant for the Utah County Sheriff's office in both corrections and the crime lab.

Some of the most important years of his life happened after the fall of 2006, when Brian began dating Emily Marie Lott. They were sealed in the St. George Temple on November 7, 2008, and settled in Lehi, Utah to begin the next chapter of their life. Together, Emily and Brian enjoyed traveling, playing games, and simply spending time with each other. They have been blessed with three amazing sons: Miles Brian in 2012, Charles Barrett in 2015, and Nelson William in 2018. Brian loved every moment spent with Emily and his boys. He was silly, playful and always so much fun. He enjoyed playing games, wrestling and reading bedtime stories. He especially loved to tickle his boys and you could often hear them squealing, giggling and begging "again daddy" as he tossed them high in the air.

Although Brian didn't always love to smile for the camera, those who loved and knew him remember how beautiful and contagious his smile was. He preferred to spend his time on the other side of the camera and, as a hobby, dabbled in photography and captured many beautiful family photos. Brian's family would also describe him as a gifted cook on his Trager smoker. He made the most delicious ribs and roasts. He loved to play golf and spend time with his loved ones "on the green." He enjoyed fishing trips with his dad and brothers as well as family time at the cabins in Kolob and Pine Valley and held these memories close to his heart.

Brian found tremendous joy in serving God and his community and spending time with the numerous friends and family that filled his life. With profound sadness we say goodbye for now, but not forever. We love you with all our hearts Brian, and look forward to the day we will meet again.

Brian is survived by his parents Joan and Kirk Smith; his older sister Shellie; his brothers Kenny, Mike and Scott; his precious wife Emily; his sons Miles, Charlie, Nelson and many other extended family members. He is preceded in death by his grandparents William and Varda Barrett, and Thomas and Maribelle Smith.

Services for Brian will be held Monday, July 15th at 11:00 AM (with visitation starting at 10:00 AM) at the Stake Center on 3155 North Garden Drive, Lehi, Utah.
